After two good performances without reward, a 5-0 victory against Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe side did much to whet the appetite, writes Tom Schofield.

The fact that after two defeats, one in the league and one in the cup, we were left feeling confident and hopeful for the season ahead speaks volumes for the performance levels.

It’s for that reason that a 5-0 dismantling of Wycombe was so unbelievably satisfying, opposition fans will laugh and speak of the level of opposition but you can only beat what is put in front of you and Wycombe are a Championship side who merit their place in this league.

It goes without saying that we won’t win 5-0 every week but there is no reason we can’t revel in what was a five-star performance and get excited about some of the early season performances.

Adam Armstrong and Tyrhys Dolan will rightly receive plaudits. Armstrong has had a tremendous start to the season and Preston have to be kicking themselves for letting Dolan leave on a free and not giving him a chance in their first team.

I want to take a minute though to reserve praise for Bradley Johnson. I was excited about him last season and saw him a something of a coup, I was left disappointed on the whole though.

He has started this season brilliantly though and followed up his goal against Bournemouth with a superb display against Wycombe. With Lewis Travis out until after Christmas it is players like Johnson to put in those all action displays, the early signs seem good.

Up next is a trip to Pride Park where we take on Derby who are without a win in their first two games.

It is important we continue with these early season performance levels and continue to show the rest of the league that we can be a force to be reckoned with.

Here is to another 5-0 win and three points on Saturday.
