JESS Judd won a silver medal at the National Cross Country Championships in Nottingham.

The Blackburn Harrier finished in second place behind Anna Moller - the same ‘one-two’ as the BUCs Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh earlier this month.

It has been a fine cross country season for Judd who represented Great Britain in the 5000m at the World Championships in Doha last October.

In January, Judd, who is from Canvey Island, kicked off the year in style by winning the Essex County Championships at Basildon and followed up by winning the Northern Athletics Cross Country Championships at Bedale.

At Wollaton Park in Nottingham, Judd clocked 33mins 20secs - 29 seconds behind champion Moller of Aldershot Farnham and District while Leeds City AC runner Bronwen Owen was third.

“I’m really happy to finish my cross country season with silver,” she said. “It was one of my best runs and although it wasn’t good enough to win, this cross country season has, without doubt, been the best I’ve ever had.

“So I am just grateful I managed to finish it off well.”

Clubmate Ellen Sagar-Heasketh finished in 253rd in a time of 43.05 out of the 911 strong Senior Women’s field.

Ribble Valley Harriers had a superb championships as they finished in fourth place in the women’s team event with Eleanor Bolton leading the way with a brilliant sixth place as she clocked 34:04

Caroline Lambert was 26th in 36:04 with Nichola Jackson just finishing outside the top 50, as she was 53rd in 37:28. Hannah Stroud was the Harriers’ final ‘marker’ dipping just inside the top 100, clocking 39:04 to finish 99th.

Clubmate Nicola Squires was 130th in 39:52.

Rob Warner also had a good day in the mud, the Blackburn Harrier coming home in 23rd place in the senior men’s race in a field of more than 1700 runners with a time of 45.56 - his highest position in the nationals.

“It was a tough course, really tough to get any sort of a rhythm so I just tried to get through the mud as best I could and then get into my running on the better parts of the course,” he said.

“I’m really pleased with my best finish again at the nationals and probably my best winter so far.”

Clayton-le-Moors Harriers Martin Brady and Peter Browning both took part - Brady 1577th in 1.17.18 and Browning 1636 in 1.21.11.

In the junior men’s race, Blackburn Harrier Joe Gebbie enjoyed a place inside the top 100, finishing 88th position in 41.47.

In the girls under 17s race, Bethany Wheatcroft of Clayton-le-Moors was 239th in 31.04.

In the boys under 17 race, Jack Villiers of Clayton was 130th in 26.22 with clubmates Peter Stevens 229th in 28.50 and Theo Edmondson 286th in 34.89.

Josh Greary of Chorey AC and Tri Club produced a superb run in the under 15s boys race, finishing in 16th place in 17.26.

In the under 13s girls race, Chorley pair Libby Rickerby and Amelie Smethurst crossed the line together, 88th and 89th, in the same time of 17.22.
