Rovers reporter Rich Sharpe hands out his player ratings from the 2-0 win at Charlton Athletic.

Christian Walton 8

Made good saves in either half to deny Taylor, but the pick of the bunch saw him turn a dipping Cullen shot wide of the post. Looked secure in the swirling wind and claimed an 11th clean sheet.

Ryan Nyambe 8

Saw plenty of the ball in both halves and took some stopping when he got in to full flight, before making some good interceptions in the second period. Most improved player this season by far.

Darragh Lenihan 8

Made some unnecessary challenges in the second half, earning him a booking, but dealt with the conditions much better than his Charlton counterparts, dealing with several aerial balls forward.

Tosin Adarabioyo 8

Recovered from a shaky start to play his part in another clean sheet. His use of the ball continues to catch the eye and came up with the second goal by diverting a Downing corner home.

Amari’i Bell 7

Got forward to good effect in the first half but was happier to sit in during the second. Didn’t let anything get down his side and stopped crosses coming in to the box.

Bradley Johnson 8

A timely return to perform as he used his experience, and strength, to good effect to shield the back four. Was intelligent with the ball, choosing when to play short and when to look in behind.

Lewis Travis 7

One broken hand, but still won four tackles in the middle of the pitch as Rovers dominated in that area.

Stewart Downing 7

Claimed assists for both goals, the second the pick of the bunch from an excellent free kick. Couldn’t make the most of an excellent opportunity in the first half when trying to play in Armstrong, and ballooned a shot wide in the second.

John Buckley 8

Got a run in his more favoured No.10 role in a first start of 2020. Looked to get on the ball at every opportunity, and opened the scoring with a deflected shot from the edge of the area.

Adam Armstrong 7

Had the beating of the Charlton back three with his pace. Tried his luck from distance on three occasions, but didn’t find the target with any, including one from all of 45 yards. Largely anonymous for much of the second half.

Dominic Samuel 8

Was handed the responsibility to lead the line, and showed a good touch throughout, as well as a willingness to run in behind. Should have had won a penalty and was given a standing ovation when substituted late on.

Subs

Harry Chapman (for Armstrong, 72) 6

Only had one opportunity to break forward, but did track back to good effect on several occasions which will have pleased his manager.

Ben Brereton (for Samuel, 81) 6

Looked secure with the ball at his feet, including one mazy run that ended with him flashing a shot wide.

Elliott Bennett (for Buckley, 83) 6

Added some extra experience in the closing stages.

Unused subs: Jayson Leutwiler, Hayden Carter, Jacob Davenport, Danny Graham
