Mark Warburton feels his QPR side will face a ‘rested and confident’ Rovers at Ewood Park on Tuesday.

While Rovers have been afforded a nine-day break since the 5-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, the Rs were in FA Cup fourth round action against the Owls on Friday.

Warburton’s side, who beat Leeds United in their last Championship game, were knocked out home by the Owls, with Nahki Wells’ late strike merely a consolation.

Their attentions will now turn back to league action against Rovers, knowing that victory at Ewood Park would lift them above Tony Mowbray’s men.

And for that reason, Warburton says Rangers, who beat Rovers 4-2 in the reverse fixture in October, will need to rest up and prepare for a tough game in midweek.

“On the back of their good result against Sheffield Wednesday and a break away in Portugal they will come back rested and full of confidence so we have to go there with a positive mind set, prepare and rest well,” he said of Rovers.

“We know what we will face and will want to continue our run in the league. We have the quality to impose ourselves on the game but we will need to go there and do that.”

A first half goal from Morgan Fox, and second half strike from Sam Winnall, put the game beyond Rangers who had a late Wells goal to show for their efforts, his 15th of the season.

And Warburton was disappointed to exit the competition in the manner they did.

“It’s very frustrating to go out like that. I feel like we have gone out on a bit of a whimper,” he told his club’s website.

“In the first half we felt we had more of the ball, we never felt threatened at all, we got into some good areas particularly on the far side, but we never forced the keeper into the save.

“We just lucked a bit of guile and then we gave away a really poor goal, it’s a really soft goal to concede just before half time.

“We knew we would have to come out for the second half and raise ourselves and our tempo, and I thought we did that.

“The players moved the ball well and had a good energy about them, the crowd reacted well and it felt like we were going to get the goal but we missed the big chances which ultimately cost us - you have to take your chances.

“We had a couple of big chances around the 70-minute mark and you have to take those chances.”
