ACCRINGTON Stanley goalkeeper Joe Bursik believes his mistake in the 2-1 defeat at Salford City on Tuesday night can count as a learning curve for him.

Stanley took the lead through Sam Finley after 11 minutes, but conceded with the last action of the first half as Cameron Burgess got his head to the ball leaving Bursik to grasp at thin air.

Bursik could do nothing about Tom Elliott's winning goal just minutes into the second half as Stanley were knocked out of the Leasing.com Trophy at the quarter finals stage.

"It’s a hard one, we backed ourselves going into the game as we should. We’ve all got to look at ourselves, I’ve got to look at myself," said Bursik. "I should have done better with the first goal. It’s something to learn from for me. It gave them a bit of momentum going into half time and gave them a bit of spirit. "I’ve got to look at myself for that. It’s a game where we had a lot of the ball. Sometimes we have to make the most of having the ball and push for more goals.

"The first goal gave them a lease of life and then we’re pushing for the goal, so it left us a bit open. They went down the line, cut it back and scored.

"We still had, loads of time left in the game and created loads of chances, it’s just frustrating."

The Stoke City loanee highlighted how his team mates need to look at how they were playing when they were winning games a few weeks ago.

"Naturally, you’re positive after scoring an early goal. You never look too far ahead because there’s a lot of the game to go, but you’re positive and we back ourselves to go on," added Bursik. "I’ve kind of killed us by not playing my part in stopping that goal, which is frustrating. We’ve gone in at 1-1 and it’s not the end of the world. "We need to look at ourselves and see how we can do better to stay in games because we have done that in parts of the season. We need to make sure we’re doing that all the time."
