JOHANN Berg Gudmundsson could return to the Burnley squad for their trip to Manchester United.
The Icelandic winger has had a stop-start season due to injury and has not featuring since picking up a hamstring injury in the FA Cup win over Peterborough at the start of the month.
That was the 29-year-old’s first start since early October and boss Sean Dyche says if he is not involved at Old Trafford the FA Cup fourth round tie with Norwich on Saturday is a realistic target.
“Johann’s had a good few days and I’ll find out more today,” he said at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.
“He’s got a chance of coming back into figuring. I’d certainly hope by the weekend he could figure in some capacity and he’s got a chance of figuring tomorrow or at least being around it which is better news.
“We’re back to where we’re trying to get players more sharpness and true fitness after another spate of injuries. We’re hopeful that will start to happen again.”
Dyche also reported that Ashley Barnes’ hernia surgery on Friday had been a success, but would not put a timeframe on the striker’s return.
“Barnesy had his surgery and they are happy with how it went,” the Clarets boss said.
“The diagnosis is one thing but when they operate it might be different but it was straightforward from the knowledge I’ve got about that.
“He’ll just recover as per norm now. We’re just pleased it was pretty standard.”
