Rovers youngster Tyler Magloire is set for ‘an extended period’ on the sidelines after undergoing surgery.

Magloire picked up the injury while training with Rochdale having agreed a season-long at the League One club last month.

The 20-year-old made just two Carabao Cup appearances for Dale but is now back at Rovers for his rehabilitation process after surgery.

Rochdale boss Brian Barry-Murphy said Magloire would be ‘a major loss’ to his side who were beaten 6-0 by Peterborough last weekend.

“We have an issue with Tyler Magloire who got injured in training and he’s back at his parent club, but the news isn’t good,” the Dale boss told his club’s website.

“We think he’s going to be out for an extended period of time. How long that period of time is, I’m not sure yet.

“I’m hopeful more than confident to be honest, because it seemed quite a bad injury to his groin, so we await news. He won’t be available for the next few games, so he’s a major loss to us.”

Magloire is one of a clutch of young Rovers central defenders currently out on loan.

The speedy defender, who captained Rovers Under-23s last season, made two Championship appearances last term, making his debut in a 3-0 win over Wigan in March and then starting the defeat at Sheffield Wednesday later that week.

He was allowed to leave on loan to further his development at Dale, making his debut in the Carabao Cup win over Bolton and then featuring in the same competition against Carlisle.

Magloire’s injury will rule him out of the club’s third round league cup tie at Manchester United next week.

Scott Wharton was back in the Northampton side last weekend after a slight injury concern himself.

Wharton will spend the season with the League Two club, his fifth separate loan move in the last two years.

He made his fifth league start for the Cobblers in their weekend win over Newport County and has played eight games in all competitions, despite missing three games through injury.

Elsewhere, Matty Platt signed for National League side Barrow on a season-long deal earlier this month.

The 21-year-old, who spent last season with Accrington and Southport, returned to Holker Street where he finished the 2016/17 campaign.

Platt, who played in Rovers’ Carabao Cup win over Oldham last month and was part of the squad for the defeat at Fulham, has played three times for Ian Evatt’s side so far.
