Rovers’ reward for their last-gasp victory over Oldham Athletic is a trip to Premier League side Sheffield United.

Joe Rothwell scored a 95th minute winner, after Stewart Downing had equalised two minutes in to injury-time, to see off the League Two side.

Oldham had threatened an upset when Curacao international winger Gevaro Nepomuceno opened the scoring, and captain Mohamed Maouche put them ahead again with 10 minutes to go.

But Rovers just about got themselves over the line and in to round two where they will travel to Bramall Lane.

The second round tie will take place on the week commencing Monday, August 26.

The Blades were one of 13 Premier League sides to enter at this stage of the competition, with the draw regionalised but unseeded.

The two sides met in the Championship last season, with Chris Wilder’s side winning 2-0 at Ewood Park and then 3-0 at Bramall Lane.

Rovers’ last victory against the Blades in South Yorkshire came in January 1994 courtesy of an Alan Shearer brace in a 2-1 win.

Last season, Rovers made it round three when they were knocked out by Premier League opposition in Bournemouth.
