Charlie Adam has thanked Rovers and Tony Mowbray after ending his spell training at Brockhall.

Adam has now signed for Championship rivals Reading on a one-year deal.

The Scottish midfielder spent three weeks at Rovers and featured in the opening friendly at Barrow as well as two behind closed doors games.

Adam was a free agent after leaving Stoke City at the end of last season but was never thought to be under consideration to earn a deal at Rovers.

Adam impressed for Rovers against Barrow earlier this month, playing the second half of the 2-1 win, and he also played for the Under-23s in a behind closed doors game at Leeds, scoring once and claiming an assist in a 2-1 victory.

The 33-year-old then scored twice against Macclesfield last week in another behind closed doors game.

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray is keen to trim the numbers in his squad, with around 32 players having been involved in training of late.

That has also seen former Derby County midfielder Jacob Butterfield end his spell training at Rovers.
