Ben Brereton scored twice for Rovers in a behind closed doors friendly win over Rochdale.

The two sides were scheduled to meet at the Crown Oil Arena on Sunday, only for the game to be postponed because of concerns over Dale’s pitch.

However, Rovers, who beat Barrow 2-1 in their opening pre-season match, were still keen to get minutes in to their players, with the game played at Brockhall on Saturday.

And Tony Mowbray’s side proved too strong for the League One outfit, leading 3-0 at the break before adding two more in the second half.

Darragh Lenihan headed in the opener from a corner, before an inviting Elliott Bennett cross was met by Danny Graham for the second.

A solo strike from Sam Hart, who had two previous loan spells with Dale, put the result beyond doubt.

Brereton scored the first of his two close-range finishes early in the second half before Dale pulled a goal back late on.

Rovers are back in pre-season friendly action at League Two side Mansfield on Wednesday before rounding off their programme with games at Rangers (July 21), Bury (July 24) and Blackpool (July 27).

Several players are still nursing knocks which will be assessed before the trip to the One Call Stadium, with a number of the club’s Under-23s who featured at Barrow set to be involved again.

Meanwhile, midfielder Charlie Adam, who has been training with Rovers and featured as a trialist at Barrow, scored and claimed an assist as the Under-23s beat Leeds in a behind closed doors game last Friday.
