BRENTFORD are the latest club to be linked with a move for Rovers target Sam Gallagher.

The Southampton front man looks set to leave St Mary's on a permanent deal having been long linked with a move back to Ewood Park after a successful loan spell in the 2016/17 season.

He could cost £5 million with Wigan joining Rovers in being talked about as a possible destination for the 23-year-old in recent weeks.

Now the Bees have reportedly emerged however with head coach Thomas Frank likely to lose star man Neal Maupay this summer, the Frenchman being courted by Premier League new boys Sheffield United.

Gallagher's 12 goals during his time in East Lancashire could not prevent Rovers being relegated to League One but Tony Mowbray has remained a keen admirer.

Rovers tried to sign him permanently last summer before going back with a loan offer in January.

Both bids were rebuffed however as the Saints kept Gallagher in the building only for him to make just six appearances in all competitions across the campaign, featuring twice in the FA Cup and four times in the league.

Gallagher had spent the 2017/18 season with Birmingham City, scoring seven goals in 34 appearances.

Signing competition and support for Danny Graham is high on Rovers' agenda this year. as they look to improve on 15th in the Championship last time around.
