Doncaster Rovers have received bids from Championship clubs for rumoured Charlton and Millwall target John Marquis.

Donny manager Grant McCann revealed they had received bids for the 26-goal ace but they’ve fallen below their valuation.

Marquis, 27, courted interest from a host of clubs including Sunderland who saw two bids rejected in January.

Doncaster’s failure to get promoted, falling to Charlton in the League One play-off semi-final, seemingly rules out a move to the Black Cats as Championship clubs circle around McCanns’s talisman.

"If John is here for the first game of the season then great, we'll try to get him among the goals again,” McCann told the Doncaster Free Press.

"If truth be told, John probably doesn't want to be here.

"He feels he deserves a crack at the Championship and so do I to be honest."

'He deserves the chance at a Championship'

Marquis has been at the Keepmoat Stadium for three seasons, scoring 66 goals in 152 appearances, including 26 in 2016/17 when they won promotion from League Two.

"I think to score 26 goals, he deserves the chance at a Championship club and we won't stand in his way.”

“We've had nothing for four or five days but there have been two or three bids come in for John.

"There's nothing that meets the club's valuation - nothing anywhere near it.

"The club do not need to sell him.”

Millwall, who are set to lose top-scorer Lee Gregory at the end of the month were rumoured to be potential suitors of Marquis who started his career with the Lions.

With Tom Elliott and Tom Bradshaw the only recognised strikers on the books at The Den, and Steve Morison linked to a move to Shrewsbury Town, a striker would be manager Neil Harris’s priority this summer.
