Charlton’s failed attempt in reaching a contract extension with manger Lee Bowyer has plunged owner Roland Duchatelet’s relationship with fans to new depths.

The Belgian has often courted negative feelings amongst the Addicks faithful since his reign at the helm of the now Championship club, but his inability to come to an agreement with Bowyer has incensed supporters.

Bowyer, credited with being the galvanising force in a promotion winning campaign soured by a backdrop of off-field dramas, was hopeful of extending his stay in SE7, but according to a statement from the owner on the Club’s website on Monday, his time in charge in expected to lapse at the end of the month when his current deal expires.

Reports suggest Bowyer and Duchatelet will meet again on Tuesday to discuss further, but many believe the tone of the statement have all but ended hopes of the manager staying beyond June.

Sources say that all staff at the Club have refused to acknowledge the owner's statement on social media in a show of solidarity behind the manager.

Supporters were not shy however in coming forward to display their anger, frustrations and disbelief towards the owner who himself took control of negotiating the manager's new deal.
