I wouldn't say that we were completely 'on the beach', but there was definitely a hint of a few pairs of flip-flops gracing the Goodison Park pitch on Friday night. And you know what, that's okay.

Because the job has been done for another year, the season is coming to a close and our boys have worked incredibly hard to retain their top-flight status. As such, they have earned the opportunity to go out there and enjoy a relaxed game of football with no pressure on the result.

And when that happens, you are probably going to get beaten by a better side. The stats tell us that the damage was done with just 20 minutes on the clock, but that's not really the full story. Ben Mee was desperately unlucky to deflect that shot into his own net and I was really encouraged by an improved second-half performance. Sadly, Everton were just more ruthless in front of goal and that happens in this league.

What I am more interested in talking about this week, is the sensational form Ashley Westwood has shown this season. And how that form was rewarded in a clean sweep of "player of the year' awards from the supporters' clubs, the players and the fans. I was fortunate enough to be at Turf Moor on Sunday night, with a clear view of Westwood on the table next to me. His little face was just a picture; he just didn't seem like he was expecting it and was genuinely taken aback when he realised what was happening. In a season where no one player has really stood out, he has stood out. He filled a very large Joey Barton-shaped hole in the centre of our midfield and is a real captain in the making. He got my vote and I am delighted for him.

And so we move onto the final game of this roller-coaster of a season, where we face our old foe Arsenal at Turf Moor. The Gunners will need a mathematical miracle to get a top four place. The Clarets, on the other hand, will be playing to remind the Premier League just how lucky they are to have us. Wouldn't it just be wonderful if we put the final nail in the Gooners season with an offside, hand balled goal three minutes after the end of injury time?

Whatever happens, let's make Turf Moor rock and send our boys off with our heartfelt thanks for a job well done.
