AT a time when Bacup manager Brent Peters started to feel the club's fortunes had changed following an impressive mid week Lancashire Co-Op Challenge Cup win, lady luck was missing at Valley Road on Saturday.
Flixton's winning goal, scored by Steven Moore, came when Borough's keeper, struggling with an injury, struck his goal-kick straight to Moore outside the box, and the Flixton frontman went straight on to bury his chance.
But Bacup worked hard to fashion an equaliser.
Matthew Cross had an excellent shot well saved and Davey Luker, taking reciept of Ian Barker's pass, sent his effort wide of the upright.
In the second-half, Bacup's best chance came when Adam Lucas fed in Luker, but his effort was superbly beaten away by Flixton goalkeeper David Rouse.
Bacup's eighth league defeat of the Vodkat League Division One season keeps them in the bottom two.
Peters said: "The goal was just a freak goal - a gift.
"There was nothing we could have done about that other than in hindsight, my goalkeeper should have got one of his defenders to take his goal kicks once he picked up an injury in the warm up.
"Had we not have conceeded that freak goal we would have got at least one point and that would have been the least we did deserve over the 90 minutes.
"We will keep going, keep believing and keep working hard and the breaks will eventually come. I am sure lady luck will not keep deserting us."
