Lewis Travis suffered a dead leg which was behind his half time substitution.

The Rovers midfielder picked up the injury in the closing stages of the first half and didn't emerge after the break.

But boss Tony Mowbray hopes the 21-year-old will be fit for this weekend's trip to Norwich.

“He didn’t come into the dressing room at half time,” Mowbray said.

“He went straight into the physio room and I stuck my head in to be told that he wouldn’t be available for the second half.

“I think it’s just a dead leg, not a muscle strain, just a kick. We’ll put the ice on it and hopefully it’ll settle down by the weekend.”

Travis was replaced at half time by Elliott Bennett, with midfield partner Jack Rodwell taken off midway through the half to allow for a home debut for homegrown midfielder John Buckley.

Attacker Dan Butterworth was given a Championship debut 10 minutes later and he went close to his first senior goal when he flashed a shot just wide of the post.

Mowbray had hoped to give some of the club's promising youngsters game-time in the closing weeks, and that chance came in this one ahead of their Premier League Cup quarter final against Everton.

The boss said: “There was an opportunity to get John Buckley on the pitch in the second half, which we did.

“Rodwell, we talked about him playing centre half, so for me to put him in central midfield I knew he wouldn’t last 90 minutes, especially with me shouting in his ear all that time.

“We always thought about getting Buckley on after 70 minutes and I’m delighted for him to get some minutes on the pitch, like Butterworth did, showing flashes of what he can do. He had a great drilled shot across the box.”
