Rovers reporter Rich Sharpe hands out his player ratings after the 2-0 win over Bolton.

Jayson Leutwiler 7

Best save came in the second half from Connolly while he also dealt well with several more long range efforts. Flapped at one second half corner, but looked better under the high ball than at QPR.

Ryan Nyambe 7

Given very little to do defensively, and didn’t get too involved in the attacks, keeping things simple in possession. Poor first half clearance saw  Murphy fire just over.

Darragh Lenihan 7

Deserved to lead the team out after recent displays. Couldn’t find his radar with his cross-field passes but first to most things.

Derrick Williams 7

Excellent covering challenge on Donaldson in the first half, and keeping his place in the side on merit with another good display.

Amari’i Bell 7

Had his hands full against the imposing Ameobi, and a few slips apart, did well. Took up some good positions going forward.

Lewis Travis 6

Caught in possession a little too often before being forced off at the break following a heavy challenge.

Jack Rodwell 7

Covered plenty of ground in the middle of the pitch and snapped in to his tackles but not always best placed to stop counter-attacks.

Joe Rothwell 8 (MAN OF THE MATCH)

Linked up well with Dack for both goals, and unlucky not to score before Armstrong did. His ability to drift in from the left, as well as his perfect weight of pass, are making him a key part of this Rovers attack.

Bradley Dack 8

Set up Brereton’s goal with a terrific one-touch pass and had a hand in the second for Armstrong. The attacker purred all afternoon and has had a timely return to his best form.

Adam Armstrong 7

Forced home his ninth of the season from close range in the second half and then drew a save from Alnwick his curling effort.  Struggled to get involved in the game in the first half.

Ben Brereton 8

A popular goalscorer when he gave Rovers the lead with a confident first time finish on his left foot. Had two more good openings, one blazed over and another saved by the legs of Alnwick. Better with his back to goal than we’ve seen previously.

Subs

Elliott Bennett (for Travis, 46) 6

Replaced the injured Travis at the break. Didn’t always play forward when the possibility arose. Saw a 25 yard effort saved.

John Buckley (for Rodwell, 65) 6

Fluffed his line when in a decent shooting opportunity but always looked to get on the ball on his home debut.

Dan Butterworth (for Dack, 74) 7

Went close to a first senior goal when a confident burst forward ended with a shot which flashed past the post.

Subs not used: Raya, Mulgrew, Conway, Graham
