SAINTS boss Justin Holbrook praised the team’s attitude in training, their display at Huddersfield and talked about unsung second row Dom Peyroux when the Star’s Mike Critchley caught up with him at the Cowley training ground.

MC: Just walked past the lads having their weights session outdoors - are they usually that competitive with each other?

JH: Oh yes, they always are. The standards they set for each other and themselves are high and that is one of the reasons we have been so consistent in the way we play.

It is the application of the way we go about things in training. Pushing each other and expecting a lot of their teammates. It is good to have guys like that with a great work ethic.

MC: A quick look back to last Thursday - and a tougher win than the scoreline suggests.

JH: It was a hard first half and they have got some big boys there. But I was impressed with the way we really stepped it up in the second half and we were in full control of that game.

We upped our intensity in the second half and got rewards off the back of what we did in the first half.

MC: It is pleasing to see Dom Peyroux get some recognition for another fine game at Huddersfield?

JH: Dom has been fantastic for us for a long time now and I was really happy for him to get some rewards publicly.

Internally here we know how important he is to our team but it was important for him to get a bit of recognition for that.

Morgan Knowles has been terrific for us every week and Jonny Lomax and Lachlan Coote were both terrific too.

We have got consistent performers every week and I think that is why we have started the season so well.

MC: Dom was outstanding last year - then broke his arm in the summer. Did that affect the season more than people recognised?

JH: It did, massively. I had said internally that we know important he is to our team.

You probably saw when we did not have him, how much it affected us. He is an important part and I am glad he is getting a bit of recognition that he deserves because he works hard.

MC: Kyle Amor dropped out and Jack Ashworth kept his spot. Is that a reward for the way Jack has gone about things?

JH: It was close at the start of the year and Kyle just got the nod ahead of him after a better pre-season.

But Jack has worked really hard in his games at Leigh and we had the opportunity for the extra middle there.

Kyle has done nothing wrong and is unlucky to miss out.

We just wanted to give Jack some experience there and we are likely to stick with that at this stage, this week.

MC: Your fourth sub has tended to be restricted to that final quarter, is that likely to change?

JH: It is not something I have got locked in as to when they come on. It is hard because everyone wants game time at the minute. We are sharing the workload well.

MC: Have the recent performances by Salford and London put Saints’ wins over them into a bit of context?

JH: A lot of people were surprised after Salford when I said that it was the hardest game we have played.

Then they beat Catalans — after beating good teams the weeks before we played them — and people suddenly realised it was a hard game.

It is the same with London. We were really dominant against them considering how difficult they can be to play against.

It takes time for people to reflect on some wins being better than we thought.

MC: 10 points clear of the last two sets of champions, shows this comp does not respect reputation.

JH: It shows you have to be playing well and it does not matter what club you are at.

With so many good teams in this division - Wakey, Salford, Catalans and a few surprise teams.

Every team is capable of doing it on the day but it is the teams that do it consistently that is going to get the rewards in the long run and we want to continue along that path.

MC: Saints 19s are winning are the group at Leigh playing well. A good start all round?

JH: The club has started the season really well and that is really positive. We are in a good place but have to keep working hard to stay there.

Over at Leigh James Bentley and Danny Richardson have played really well this past two weeks after a quiet start to the year.

That is good for them personally. And when they get called upon they are going to come forward with some confidence after playing well at Leigh.

You have to go there, play well and earn the right to come back into our side.

They understand that and are going way about it the right way.
