Rovers have taken forward Taylor Allen, currently at National League North club Nuneaton Borough, on trial.

The 18-year-old will spend this week at Rovers and is expected to play in a behind closed doors game on Thursday.

Allen signed for Nuneaton in early January after scoring a hat-trick in a trial match.

He jumped up four tiers when joining from Birmingham-based outfit Romulus and has since played nine times for Boro.

Allen’s form saw him spent time on trial with Leicester City where he was involved for their Under-23s side in a 2-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

Nuneaton manager, and current acting chairman Jimmy Ginnelly describes Allen as “very quick and “athletic” and believes he is destined for a bright future in the game.

He added: “He has all the attributes required to progress into the Football League. He has a great attitude and is always willing to learn.”

Rovers are short of options in attack within their Under-23s ranks after Okera Simmonds was released in January, before going on to join Accrington Stanley on an 18 month deal.

Joe Nuttall has spent much of this season with the first team, with Jack Vale recently used in the central striking position in boss Damien Johnson’s Under-23s side.

Vale meanwhile will hope to feature for Wales Under-19s in their UEFA Elite Tournament against hosts Netherlands tomorrow night (6pm).
