BURNLEY defender Charlie Taylor highlighted how the defeat to Leicester was a ‘sickener’ to take.

The Foxes played 85 minutes of the match with a man light after Harry Maguire was shown a straight red card for bringing down Johann Berg Gundmundsson when he was racing through on goal.

Burnley equalised in the first half through Dwight McNeil, from a Taylor assist, after James Maddison gave Brendan Rodgers’ side the lead.

Wes Morgan won it for the visitors in the 90th minute with a header in to the bottom corner.

“It is a bit off a sickener really. It’s massively frustrating with how the game started with them going down to 10 men so early,” said Taylor who was involved in one of the game’s key talking points when he appeared to be tripped by Wilfred Ndidi but referee Michael Oliver waved play on.

“It’s definitely a missed opportunity to get three points.

“Before the four games we were on a really good run, I don’t know what’s happened.

“I wouldn’t say we’ve been playing badly. In the Palace game we didn’t.

“First half (against Leicester) maybe yes, but second half we struggled to break them down and find that killer moment to get a goal.”

Sean Dyche’s wanted more intensity to his side’s play in the second half, something Taylor thinks they did.

“The manager said we need to move it about more and move them about, which we did second half,” added Taylor. “We needed to open up the gaps because it’s hard to play against two banks of four when they set up so solid, so we needed to move them about and try to create opportunities.”

Defeat to the Foxes followed losses to Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Newcastle and Taylor says the Clarets have a fortnight to get things right before they return to action against Wolves at Turf Moor on Saturday, March 30.

And Taylor admitted the last seven games of the campaign are ‘huge’ if Burnley are to secure their place in the Premier Division.

“We’ve got two weeks until the next game, we’ve got a lot of work to do and we know that,” said Taylor.

“We’ve got seven huge games ahead of us and we’ve got to take them to stay in this league for next season.”

The full back, who has been one of Burnley’s most impressive performers during the tough run, says them team need to rediscover the form that saw them beat Spurs 2-1 last month.

“The Tottenham game is the standard we want to get to, that was our benchmark for this season,” he added.

“It was such a brilliant, winning performance and if we play like that then we’ll be ok.

“We need to get back to them standards and get back to that.

“Obviously, being at home is what we want - we know we’re a good team, but being at home we’ll fancy ourselves to come away with the three points and put this run of defeats to an end.”
