Rovers Under-23s’ game at Tottenham Hotspur later this month won’t now take place at the club’s new stadium.

The two sides were set to meet at Spurs’ new home in a Premier League 2 fixture on Monday, April 8 - in what would have been the second fixture staged at the venue.

However, the Premier League side have announced the game will now take place at The Lamex Stadium, home of League Two outfit Stevenage.

Spurs' long-awaited move into their new 62,000-seater home was hinging on the outcome of Brighton's FA Cup clash at Millwall on Sunday.

Following Brighton’s win, Palace will become the first visitors to the new, as yet unnamed, stadium for a rearranged midweek Premier League tie.

But it’s a Champions League quarter final home leg against Manchester City on Tuesday, April 9 that has brought about a change of venue for the Under-23s clash.

A Spurs statement read: “Following Brighton's victory against Millwall in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, we can confirm that the first Premier League match in our new stadium will be against Crystal Palace on Wednesday 3 April (kick-off time TBC).

“This will be followed on Tuesday 9 April by the first leg of our UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City, kick-off 8pm.”

The Premier League 2 schedule takes a hiatus for the international break, with Rovers not in action until facing Spurs on April 8.

It promises to be a crucial game in the bid to avoid the drop. The two sides are separated only on goal difference, both sitting three points above second-bottom West Ham United who have a game in hand.

Rovers have three league games remaining, though are through to the last eight of the Premier League Cup and also in to the final of the Lancashire Senior Cup where they will face Burnley.
