Tony Mowbray admits it isn’t easy to find players in the January window capable of vastly improving his squad.

It is for that reason he has told supporters not to expect a raft of incomings before the window closes.

Mowbray is happy with the option at his disposal, and the team spirit created, and will only move for players capable of making an instant impact on the first team.

Rovers have struggled with availability of late, but that won’t force the boss in to the market.

Mowbray said: “I wouldn’t want the fans to think we are going to sign three players who are going to play up front, in midfield and one at the back and be better than Mulgrew, Evans, Reed or Smallwood, or better than Dack or Graham, because I like the team.

“I like the camaraderie and honesty of the group but when a player comes up who we think can help the group on the group then we will do it, but they are not easy to find.”

On where things stand with incomings, the boss explained: “We are in conversations. It’s never easy with still two weeks of the window to go.

“As times runs against money, let’s see where it goes.

“I think the clubs who have lots of money can do that (make early inroads), or match the expectation of the selling club, or the club who want a player to go out on loan.”

Mowbray believes the versatility of players within his squad is also a factor behind the lack of expected action this month.

“The reason we aren’t openly actively busy is that the squad is pretty strong and we have some versatile players,” he added.

“Reedy can play central midfield, he can play wide right, wide left, or right back, and we’ve also got Nyambe and Bennett who can play that.

“Bennett can play anywhere basically, so I’m not in a rush to bring in bodies just for the sake of it who won’t get in our team.

“In the last few windows I have looked to bring in young players who I feel can create the depth of the squad that if and when they are needed, they can help the team.

“Really I think if we are to sign a player I would like it to be someone who can go straight in to our team and make it better, or a potential of a young player who maybe goes straight out on loan, but he is our player and we have signed him.

“Those are the options.”
