Elliott Bennett will be missing again for Rovers this weekend, Tony Mowbray revealed.

The 29-year-old, who has a slight metatarsal fracture, has been injured for the last two games but is fighting to be fit for next week.

“Bennett won’t be around this week. I think Elliott’s pushing the physio to try and get ready for Norwich, obviously an ex club of his,” Mowbray said.

“That’ll be dictated by the injury rather than Elliott wanting to play. We go week by week on injuries, let’s see how they filter back in to the group.

“It’ll give me some more decisions to make on the starting eleven and hopefully it’ll only get better as we move in to a busy period where we’re coming through Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and the games in between.

“We’re going to need the squad, we’ll have to rotate a few and games this season have shown us that when we do rotate we can still win games.”

Despite Bennett's injury, Mowbray feels there is healthy competition within his squad.

He added: “Adam Armstrong has been fantastic for us, if you think back to Leeds at home they just couldn’t cope with his speed, directness and power.

“Here he is finding himself on the bench and yet Conway’s been fantastic in the same position.

“It’s different players, different games with different opponents, but hopefully still finding a way to find a performance that can get a result.

“From my discussions with them, they understand the days they must sit on the bench isn’t because the manager’s not liking you this week, it’s because the game in front of us dictates a different type of player.

“When they’re in the team they can try and cement their place down a bit and that’s what football is; you must perform to stay in the team.

“That creates competition and competition is only healthy.”
