The only expectation from Tony Mowbray this season is for Rovers to be competitive in every match in which they play.

A win on Saturday against Rotherham would however, have equalled their best start to a Championship season since relegation from the Premier League in 2011/12

To demonstrate how competitive they have been this season, only Birmingham City, have spent less time trailing in league fixtures than Rovers this season.

Rovers have lost just three of their opening 17 league fixtures, beaten by Bristol City, Sheffield United and Swansea City.

So far, they have been winning in 11 of their 17 games so far, and behind in eight.

The defeat at Bristol City in September was in fact the first time that Rovers have taken the lead in a league match, only to go on to lose, since November 2016.

The games in which they have led, but not gone on to win were against Ipswich Town, Bristol City, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.

The games in which they were behind, but avoided defeat, were Ipswich Town, Reading, Nottingham Forest, West Brom and Rotherham.

The table below, via statistician Ben Mayhew, show that just Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, QPR, Leeds and Derby have been ahead in matches for more time than Rovers.

Only three teams, Birmingham, Sheffield United and Rotherham have been drawing in matches for long.
