STANLEY boss John Coleman has been pleased with stand-in goalkeeper Jonny Maxted’s performance after the stopper helped the Reds to a clean sheet in the weekend win at Peterborough.
Maxted began the season in goal for Accrington but was displaced when Connor Ripley arrived on loan from Middlesbrough on transfer deadline day.
Ripley’s red card has opened the door for the former Eastleigh man and he has featured in the Reds’ last three fixtures - all wins.
He will again be between the posts tonight when Coleman’s side visit Luton Town but could well be replaced by the returning Ripley when Portsmouth visit the Wham Stadium on Saturday.
Nonetheless, Coleman has been pleased with what he has seen from the 24-year-old.
“I sang a song on the coach on Saturday: ‘Oh I think I have found myself a goalkeeper’ to the tune of Cheerleader!” said the Reds boss in praise of Maxted. “He has done really well, it is very difficult when you are sitting on the sidelines and then you get thrust in. As well as you train, and he does train really well, until you are doing the real stuff it is hard to get that match sharpness so he has done really well in difficult circumstances.”
