ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman does not expect his side to take their foot off the gas after an excellent start to life in League One.

The Reds climbed into the play-off places with a 3-1 weekend win over Bradford City at the Wham Stadium and have lost just two of their first 13 league matches.

Stanley travel to second-placed Peterborough United this weekend to take on one of the favourites for promotion.

And Coleman, who guided his side to the League Two title last season, is confident his charges will maintain the high standards they have set.

He said: “Knowing our players they will be hungry for more, they were relentless last year. Whatever happens this season, you won’t be able to accuse us of a lack of effort.”

Despite a fine run of form, which has seen just one league defeat since the opening day of the season, Coleman still believes there is more to come from his players.

“There are areas we can build and improve on,” he added. “You have always got to try and get better at what you do and I think that is true in any walk of life.

“We need to be tracking runners in midfield better, we have defended manfully all season but we can make it a bit easier for ourselves.

“It is a little bit of awareness and a little bit of not getting caught up in the moment and following the ball. It is something that can be worked on in training.”

Stanley were tipped by many for an instant return to the fourth tier following promotion in May but while they might have surprised some outside East Lancashire, Coleman always had the confidence they would cope at a higher level.

He said: “We said from day one, we’ve played a lot of these teams before, it’s not a new experience, and obviously those teams have progressed to get into League One but we’ve progressed. We feel we’re here on merit and we’ll give it our best shot.”
