CHRISTOPHER Schindler refused to say the elbow from Sam Vokes which opened up a significant cut on his head had been deliberate.

The Huddersfield Town defender needed lengthy treatment after being caught by a stray elbow from the Clarets striker, which Vokes stressed was accidental.

Blood poured from the cut as Schindler was attended to on the Turf Moor pitch, but the German was able to continue after being treated.

The 28-year-old said his nose was 'a little bit sore' after the game and that he'd been left with a headache.

As Schindler staggered about after being caught by the elbow he somehow managed to block Ashley Westwood's shot with his head before hitting the turf.

"I got hit by an elbow....and it was quite a strong hit," he said of the clash midway through the second half.

"Then the ball was still in play. I knew that something was coming down my nose - but I was not sure if it was blood or sweat.

"But I saw the ball was still in a dangerous area so I got my head on the second ball as well. I felt straight away it was dripping and I felt sure it was blood so that's why I went to ground."

Vokes went over to apologise to Schindler after the incident and said it had been an accidental collision.

Asked if he felt it was deliberate, the Huddersfield man said: "I don't want to say that he did it on purpose.

"They're a physical team, strong guys and they try to free them up, use their arms. Obviously my nose was in the way this time though.

"Straight away they came (to apologise). He must have felt it as well on his elbow. It was a heavy hit and of course he apologised to me."

Somehow Schindler, who had scored Huddersfield's equaliser, managed to finish the game.

"I think it was important to stop the bleeding," he said. "They asked me the important question about that.

"But there wasn't any more serious damage. For me because it wasn't irritating me for the game, I came back. That's what happened."
