A DELIGHTED Offrande Zanzala hopes to avoid any punishment for breaking a Wham Stadium corner flag in his emotional celebration of his midweek winner – believing the goal to be worth more than the pitch pole!

The Stanley striker netted the winner in the 1-0 success over Doncaster on Tuesday three minutes from time and admitted he got carried away with celebrating his first goal of the season.

The 21-year-old fired through the legs of Doncaster keeper Marko Marosi and set off to celebrate, leaving the corner flag worse for wear in the process.

Reds boss John Coleman joked that Zanzala would have to replace it while Stanley groundsman Buzzer Cook also poked fun at the match-winner after the game.

“I am sure the groundsman will have a few words with me but I think he is delighted that we got the win,” said the frontman after the game.

“My emotions were quite high, I didn’t really know what to do and I took it out on the corner flag.

“It went through the keeper’s legs and I saw it rattle the net and I just heard the roar, all the fans screaming and shouting and I just couldn’t believe it. I just ran to the corner flag and thought ‘I am just going to smash this’ but it is a great memory.

“Words cannot describe how I am feeling at the moment. It meant a lot to me and my family and I am proud to get my first goal of the season.

“I have high expectations with goals and hopefully I can take this into future games.

“I am delighted to get the first goal but more importantly to get three points for the team.”
