JOHN Coleman described some of Accrington Stanley’s football as good as Barcelona in their 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon but wants more fans to see just what his side are doing at the Wham Stadium this season.

Goals from Billy Kee and Sean McConville secured a first home win of the season for the Reds and Coleman admitted some of the football played by his side was among the best he has seen in his 19 years in East Lancashire.

But the Reds boss admitted he was frustrated Stanley are not getting the credit they deserve from the people of Accrington.

“I don’t want to be a Moaning Minnie here but if Barcelona were playing on Accrington for a month, would we get more than 2,000 home fans coming.

“Some of the football we turned out in the first half is better than Barcelona could ever turn out, could ever perform at this level.

“And we are not getting the credit we deserve from the public of Accrington. Brilliant for the people who came and the atmosphere that they make is great but we need more people to witness the good football that we are playing.

“There is not much more we can do than play some of the breathtaking football that we played in the first half an hour of the game today.

“And people are missing out on it.”

He added: “First half an hour is as good as you’ll see.

“First 25 minutes I can’t remember an Accrington team in the 19 years I’ve been here playing that well.

“Possibly half a game against Yeovil last year but don’t forget we are playing against higher opposition now.

“Half a game against Yeovil we were unplayable, first 25 minutes today we were unplayable. I just wish more people would come and witness it.”

Coleman said Stanley made victory harder than it should have been having allowed Wimbledon back in to the game.

“I’m delighted with the win, we ended up hanging on when we shouldn’t have.

“We played really good football in the first half, had them on the ropes, scored and should have been more than one up to be fair. Just our final past in the final 15 minutes in the first half wasn’t good enough. But give them their due, they seized the initiative second half and come at us strongly.

“We weathered that storm went 2-0 up and you would have thought it would have been plain sailing and they’ll feel like they have scored a good goal, we’ll feel we should have done better defensively.

“But apart from the one Mark (Hughes) has headed off the line, I don’t think we have had too many scares.

“It’s just the perception of danger is there and the perception of losing a lead is there. We have lost 2-1 leads to Wimbledon before so you are mindful of that.

“Overall, I think it was a very good performance.”
