Jacob Davenport could return to training on Monday as the summer signing works his way in to contention for a first appearance in a matchday squad this season.

Davenport picked up a knock in an in-house game during the international break having missed the early weeks of the season with a hip problem.

It has meant a frustrating start to his Rovers career for the 19-year-old who joined from Manchester City on a four year deal.

But providing an update, Mowbray told the club website: “It’s positive news on Jacob. He got clattered in a behind closed doors game a couple of weeks ago and I would expect him to be back on the grass on Monday looking to build his fitness up.

“Hopefully he will be available soon enough.

“He’ll probably need an Under-23s game to get himself going. It’s been a difficult start for him in terms of not playing.

“When he has played he’s shown us he’s a good footballer who can move the ball around well.

“He’ll help us moving forward and is only a young boy. He was brought in for the future really, with the opportunity to force his way into the side straight away.

“He has plenty of time, let’s get him fit, give him game time and get him back in the squad.”
