Scott Wharton has joined Lincoln City on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old, who signed a new three-year deal at Ewood Park earlier this week, returns to Sincil Bank where he spent the final months of last season.

Wharton started the pre-season friendly against the Imps as Rovers ran out 1-0 winners.

The deal was announced at full-time over the public address system at Sincil Bank, with Wharton having impressed during his time in Lincolnshire last season.

He started 13 league games, scoring twice, and featured in the first leg of their play-off semi-final against Exeter, only to be beaten over two legs.

The Salesbury-born teenager has made six Rovers appearances since his debut against Burton Albion in August 2016, with two of those coming last season.

Tony Mowbray has fielded enquiries for a number of his young players, who impressed on the way to winning the Premier League 2 Division Two title last season.

Wharton is the first of those to be allowed to leave to further his development under Danny Cowley.
