ADAM Bracewell has only been back at Enfield for a month after two years in Australia, but captain Fergus Bailey says it is like he has never been away.

The batsman has come back with a bang, marking his 50th Lancashire League Twenty20 appearance in style last Friday as he smashed an unbeaten 107 in the 39-run win over Lowerhouse.

Bracewell tops the competition’s list of overall run scorers, despite his spell Down Under, racking up 1,338 runs from his half century of appearances.

And Bailey says it is good to have the batsman back in their armoury.

“He has been great to have back,” the Enfield skipper told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“He has been living in Australia for a couple of years and hasn’t even played while he has been there, but then he comes back and hits 100-plus against a fantastic outfit like Lowerhouse!

“He is great to have in the dressing room and a class player out on the field.

“If you look at his stats you would think he had decided to start playing after taking just six weeks off at the start of the season, never mind two years.

“He has been a massive lift.

“It’s the first year I’ve played with Adam and he has been fantastic.”

And Bailey hopes there are plenty more runs to come for him this season as Enfield make a last-ditch bid tonight to reach the knock-out stage.

Enfield, who are third going into tonight’s last round of group games, must win their JWL Bitter group tie at home to Great Harwood and hope results elsewhere go in their favour in order to progress.

“We need to beat Great Harwood quite comfortably and hope that Lowerhouse beat Church,” said Bailey.

“We need results to go our way but as long as we do the things we know we can we’d be hopeful of the victory and then see what happens.”

If Enfield do make it through the group stages, Bailey has his eyes on the main prize.

“I go into every competition aiming to win everything,” he said. “That’s the way you’ve got to be. It’s a competition for a reason.

“If we win tonight then it becomes a knock-out competition and in that scenario anyone can turn up on the day and win.”

In the other group games, fourth placed Lowerhouse take on second placed Church, while leaders Darwen, who have already booked their place in the last eight, will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent record in the competition at home to Nelson.

Elsewhere, Burnley have a two point advantage in the JWL Founders group and a far superior run rate over rivals Rishton and Clitheroe, locked together on six points.

The leaders entertain Rishton while defending champions Clitheroe are at Accrington.

The other game sees Colne face East Lancashire.

In the JWL MPA group Bacup can qualify with a win over Rawtenstall while Middleton will be looking to take advantage of any slip-up when they face Ramsbottom. The other game sees Haslingden host Norden.

The JWL Manchester Craft Group is the closest to call with four sides playing for two spots.

Rochdale are in the driving seat, a point clear of Walsden who they play tonight. The winners will be through while Crompton and Todmorden face each other knowing a victory for either could be enough to propel them into the top two. The other game sees Milnrow entertain Littleborough.
