Steve Waggott believes the decision making process at Rovers is much improved – with the chief executive having a direct line to the owners in India.

Waggott says the owners have given him authority to make decisions on their behalf while he also plans to announce a new senior management structure at the club.

Appointed to the role in December, Waggott has twice travelled to India to meet with the owners, including a visit last month to discuss plans for the upcoming season.

Venky’s advisor, Suhail Pasha, still has a role, but Waggott admits he has direct contact with the Rao family which has sped up the decision making at the club, despite the distance, and time difference, between Ewood Park and India.

He told a supporters consultation meeting: “One of the points that I’ve heard was that the decision making process, and could be, lengthy, with the time difference of four-and-a-half hours.

“The decision making, as we all know in football, Tony (Mowbray) may want something quite urgent if we are looking to close a deal.

“I have the authority and I make all the calls within the club. So it is me who is responsible.

“I go direct to Madame Desai, I have a direct line in.

“Suhail has a role still, as a representative of the owners, but that’s purely to advise me sometimes, so I use him as an advisory role sometimes.

“But the decisions are made by me. We’re the supporting cast and we have to give Tony the best platform possible to give us the success on the pitch.

“The decision making process is quicker and I have to make sure that when it is urgent it is highlighted in what I do.

“It’s a lot more sharp and crisp.

“I have just re-jigged the senior management team and will be announcing that next week as to who I will have alongside me as we move forward.

“That will make sure we’re as efficient as we can be.”

Waggott is now one of three UK based directors at the club along with Finance Director Mike Cheston and Gandhi Babu.

The trio meet four times a year, while meetings between all departments based at Ewood Park taking place each Friday.

On the playing side, that includes meetings with the first-team manager, Under-23s boss Damien Johnson and the recruitment department.

Waggott added: “There are three directors, myself, Mike and Gandhi Babu.

“We meet every three months, four meetings a year, and it’s imperative we have these meetings as we are directors of the company.

“With Mike and I being in the same office, we meet daily, in and out of each other’s offices.

“I introduced quite quickly is that during the season every Friday we have a sweep where we meet and sweep up what has happened through the week.

“We have made sure that moving forward everyone is clear what we need moving forward, what Tony’s demands were, the cash position, so we’re trying to push forward and be One Rovers on and off the pitch.

“The most important job at the club for me is the manager of the first-team, everything revolves around that, and as I’ve said before we’re the supporting cast to make sure any issues, or helps us get the three points, that we’re fully supportive within the financial constraints.”
