Rovers will continue to produce a matchday programme next season but the club will look at a possible membership scheme to cut losses.

Chief executive Steve Waggott confirmed the news at the club’s supporters consultation meeting.

It is no longer mandatory of EFL clubs to produce a matchday programme following a meeting between member clubs earlier this summer.

Waggott says the way programmes are put together, and distributed, will be looked at given it is currently ‘a loss making operation’.

But he plans to meet with supporters to discuss new ideas, and believes the increased number of travelling supporters next season could help boost sales.

Waggott admits social media has changed the way lots of fans read content surrounding the club, but says a programme has a role to play for many fans who attend matches.

He said: “Clubs can now decide whether they have a programme or not, it used to be mandatory but it isn’t anymore.

“What I am going to say is that the club will produce a programme, as fans like to collect them.

“But how we order and sell them, we are reviewing that.

“There may be a membership scheme, but we have some bigger clubs coming this year, an increased volume of supporters so it might not make a loss.

“The problem for clubs is that you all devour information on social media every day, so how do we bring in a magazine at a weekend so that you buy it.

“I don’t want to disappoint anyone, it’s my job to try and deliver services for everyone and I’m going to have a look at how we change a loss making operation in to something that at least washes its face.

“We will be producing a programme, I think we need more contributors, and I’ll be having meetings about that and discussing what will make the programme more attractive to fans so that you buy it.”
