Former Rovers goalkeeper Jason Steele has been linked with a surprise move to the Premier League.
Brighton are reported to be interested in a move for the 27-year-old who left Rovers last summer following their relegation to League One.
He was offered a Championship return after agreeing a four year deal with Sunderland in a move which banked Rovers in the region of £500,000.
However, the former England youth international enjoyed a difficult first season at the Stadium of Light as they were relegated from the Championship.
Steele featured just 18 times for Sunderland and saw a January move to Derby County fall through.
Brighton are said to be looking to add to their goalkeeping ranks to add competition to Australian international Matty Ryan, who is currently on World Cup duty and will miss much of January because of the Asia Cup.
The Seagulls are on the look-out for a new goalkeeper following the departure of Tim Krul and Niki Maenpaa this summer.
Steele joined Rovers, initially on loan, from Middlesbrough in January and made 136 appearances in all.
