Rovers will have a budget capable of adding ‘depth and quality’ to their squad this summer.

Chief executive Steve Waggott says the club will be keeping the figures close to their chests but revealed it will be a ‘competitive player budget’ as well as a pot of money for transfer fees.

Waggott was part of the Rovers hierarchy who travelled to India last week to meet with the club’s owners to discuss plans for the upcoming season back in the Championship.

Rovers are hopeful of securing extended stays for out of contract pair Craig Conway and Danny Graham, as well as a number of the squad who helped them to promotion this season.

But ahead of their return to the Championship in 2018/19, the club are also looking to press on with their transfer targets.

“We’ll have a competitive player budget and have a transfer pot of money as well,” said Waggott.

“You never disclose what you’ve got because agents pick up on it.

“We have to be smart with what we’ve got but we should be able to add depth and quality to the squad.”

Waggott was unveiled in December and oversaw a productive winter transfer window in which Amari’i Bell joined from Fleetwood Town while Adam Armstrong and Jack Payne were brought in on loan.

Rovers decided against further additions, despite having the budget available to do so, and could revisit some of those this summer.

Just two defeats in their final 35 matches helped Rovers win promotion at the first attempt as they look to build for the future.

A wave of positivity has surrounded the club during the past 12 months, with Waggott keen for Rovers to sustain that moving forward.

He added: “I have been here a relatively short period of time and I have only seen us lose once or twice.

“I’m sure we’ll go through a bit more turbulence next year with the competition in the league but it’s great when the sails are turned round at a club from a negative, downward spiral to one with a bit more forward momentum.

“It’s great to be involved with.

“The staff and the town are more upbeat and everyone is talking about Blackburn Rovers being back in the Championship.

“It’s fantastic and hopefully we can build on everything Tony did last season and we can kick on this year again.”
