CHORLEY are gearing up for a double-header weekend on the back of a fine performance to see off defending Lancashire League champions Clitheroe in the Lancashire Knockout.

That success was achieved in the closes of margins after both sides finished level having scored 230 from 45 overs with Chorley progressing on fewer wickets lost (four).

That sets up a second round tie at home to Eccleston on Sunday, June 10 but before then attention turns back to the Northern League.

Chorley have had a reasonable start and sit fifth after five games, 14 points behind leaders Blackpool.

They picked up a winning draw last Saturday against Leyland at Windsor Park having posted 267-8 before restricting Leyland to 186-7 in reply.

Andrew Holdsworth’s side are on the road at Garstang tomorrow (1pm) with their opponents two points better off in the early season standings.

Sunday sees a T20 clash away at Leyland (3.30pm) as Chorley aim to maintain their perfect start in the competition and record a third straight win which would put them on the brink of reaching the knockout stages.

Preston complete the three team group and will meet Leyland in the first of the double header fixtures on Sunday.
