ROVERS defensive duo Darragh Lenihan and Derrick Williams have been named in the Republic of Ireland squad for their upcoming friendly with Turkey.

The pair, who are both uncapped, have been named in the provisional 30 man squad for the match on Friday, March 23.

The final squad is expected to be announced next week, and will be trimmed ahead of the friendly later this month.

Williams has been an ever present in the league for Rovers this campaign having been named as the club’s player of the season in his debut year at Ewood Park.

Lenihan has just returned from a fractured metatarsal but has impressed in his five appearance since the long lay-off.

Both have experience of international football, Lenihan having represented the Under-21s on 10 occasions, while Williams has won five caps at that level.

The pair are two of five uncapped players named in the squad, with the game in Antalya set to come after a three-day training camp.

Ireland were beaten in the World Cup play-off final with Denmark, with boss Martin O'Neill casting an eye towards the future with his selection.

Former Rovers players Shane Duffy and Alan Judge are also in the 30-man squad.
