A POINT each on Saturday was a fair result as goals never looked likely from either side, although Andre Gray wasted a chance put on a plate for him by Michael Kightly.

He did this at Hull City as well, but the very next game against Bristol City he responded with a hat-trick, so the same again, Andre, would be nice!

We could not have asked for a tougher FA Cup third-round tie than Middlesbrough away.

Aitor Karanka runs a tight ship on Teesside, as we found out last month in the Championship, losing by a 1-0 margin.

They don’t concede easily, but let’s hope we’ve learned something from that game to get us into the hat for the fourth round.

I think it’s possible for the league to go hand-in-hand with a cup run, as we proved in the promotion season of 2008/09. And it’s a while since we had a good run in the FA Cup, so it would be nice to be able to get over that third-round hurdle and see where it takes us.

A cup run fires interest back into the crowd, and for the players it can take the league pressures off when they go into a cup tie. It’s an entirely different game. When the minutes are ticking away you try everything to get that equaliser.

I will be happy if we bring them back to Turf Moor for I am sure the home fans will cheer the lads on to a victory.

Sadly that couldn’t be achieved against Ipswich on Saturday.

The game was very dull with both defences well on top for the 90 minutes, and the new-look centre half partnership of Ben Mee and Michael Keane has impressed me.

Michael Duff hadn’t done a lot wrong — his strength is winning his aerial battles, which is a concern I have with Mee as he is not the tallest defender. But Mee and Keane together give you more pace at the back, and so far they are doing well there together.

I didn’t think we created chances against Ipswich, but to give the visitors credit they gave nothing away and restricted us.

It seemed to me that a point is what they came for and the Burnley XI just didn’t have enough flair to break them down, but we are still in the play-off places so we have everything to play for.

The manager has been given money to spend in this transfer window and I feel a striker and a creative midfielder would surely be at the top of his shopping list.

That’s to take the onus off Gray, who I think needs to get the service from the middle of the park.

A lot of Burnley fans point out a lack of creativity in the team.

They want success, but I told them it does not come easily and the team are trying their very best in every game to get the wins.

With three away games next week it’s going to be tough, but hopefully we can start with a win.
