BLACKBURN Rovers Ladies will attempt to stretch their winning run to five matches this Sunday when they travel to fellow high flyers Derby County in the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division.

Rovers made it four triumphs on the trot in all competitions last weekend with a 5-0 victory at home to Guiseley Vixens courtesy of a Sophie Jones double, singles from Saffron Jordan and Natasha Fenton, and an own goal.

The success hauled Gemma Donnelly’s in-form side, who are unbeaten in seven, within two point of leaders Sporting Albion, who have a played a game more, and second-placed Derby.

Rovers boss Donnelly said: “The game could have been a potential banana skin for us, so it was important that we were disciplined in our performance to ensure we claimed the points.”

It proved to be the long-serving Danielle Sheen’s final match for the club after taking the decision to retire with immediate effect.

Donnelly said: “We’d like to place on record our appreciation and thanks for all her hard work.”
