GOALKEEPER Mike Pollitt has not ruled out extending his loan spell with Burnley beyond a month.

In the current agreement, the Wigan Athletic stopper is due to return to the JJB Stadium in two weeks.

But, after earning a clean sheet on his debut at Southampton and impressing despite a 1-0 defeat at home to Stoke in midweek, the Clarets could seek to secure his services until at least the end of the season.

Pollitt's contract with the Latics runs out in the summer and, while manager Paul Jewell seems reluctant to release his number two stopper before then, he could agree to the 34-year-old seeing out the rest of this term at Turf Moor.

"There's talk of me staying until the end of the season but we'll just take each month as it comes," Pollitt said.

"I think the manager wants me to stay, there's just a bit of a problem with Wigan with a 24-hour callback because of the loan agreement.

"Hopefully I can stay until the end of the season because the last thing I want to do now is go back and sit on the bench," added the former Rotherham stopper, who lost his place in the starting line-up following injury and the arrival of England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland from Liverpool.

"My contract's up in the summer at Wigan so mainly this season now it's just a case of playing games here, or wherever.

"If I get called back to Wigan obviously I'll have to go back and play for them.

"I'll just take it now to the end of the season and see what my future is then."

In the meantime, Pollitt is concentrating on helping Burnley earn their first win since the end of November.

"I've played quite a lot of games over my career so I've got that experience, and I've played in every one of the leagues now so if I can bring something to Burnley that'd be great and hopefully it can rub off on some of the lads," he said.

"It's just been unfortunate we haven't been scoring of late.

"After a great start to the season we're having a sticky patch at the minute. It's similar to what's happening at Wigan. I've come from there, obviously, and it's a similar kind of situation - you have these spells that you go through and it's difficult to get out of them.

"But once you get that first win under your belt hopefully you can kick on."
