HAPTON'S Daniel Barritt will be roaring around the valleys this weekend as he takes part in the Wales Rally GB.

Fresh from finishing second in the Production World Rally Championship with Japanese driver Fumio Natahara, Barritt is taking the co-pilot's seat for the 16th and final round of the FIA World Rally Championship alongside Northern Ireland's Philip Morrow.

And although this particular Championship has been disappionting for the duo, 26-year-old Barritt revealed he was looking forward to the Welsh event.

He said: "We haven't done that well to be honest, we've had a few mechanical problems and little things have gone wrong here and there, but this is going to be a great experience for Philip, who has never competed here before."

All the action gets underway from tomorrow morning after a ceremonial start this evening in Cardiff.

Barritt will be battling it out in a field consisting of 118 cars through the 17-stage, four -day 754-mile event, which finishes back in the Welsh capital on Sunday afternoon.

Daniel made his GB Rally debut back in 2000 and has competed in the event three times with his best finish 24th, although he was sixth in the N4 Class last year.

And he will be hoping to improve on that this year in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.

However, after practice sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, he was under no illusion as to the challenge ahead.

He added: "The conditions are going to be really tricky, it's typical November weather.

"It should be good though, the standard of competition is very high and there are some really good drivers taking part."

There are two new awards for this year's event. The Richard Burns Trophy and the Michael Park Trophy, which will be presented to the highest-placed Amateur British driver and co-driver respectively.
