IT is a case of crazy gang' re-united when Burnley's Steve Cotterill locks horns with Leeds counterpart Dennis Wise tonight.

The pair were team-mates at Wimbledon after striker Cotterill joined the Dons during the 1989/90 campaign.

In the previous season, the south London club famously defeated hot favourites Liverpool 1-0 in the 1988 FA Cup final.

Along with Vinnie Jones and John Fashanu, Wise was one of many high-profile members of the crazy gang', a nickname coined to describe Wimbledon during the 1980's and early 1990's due to their eccentric behaviour.

The combative midfielder left to captain Chelsea to FA Cup triumphs in 1997 and 2000, the League Cup in 1998 and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1998.

His first spell of management came at Millwall, who he led to the FA Cup final in 2004, before taking over the reigns at Swindon and now at Elland Road with assisant manager, ex-Chelsea star Gus Poyet.

"I certainly know Dennis very well. He's a good lad and I'm looking forward to seeing him," said Cotterill, who spent over three seasons at the Dons.

"Anybody who thinks he was just a tough-tackling midfield player with a few wild challenges from time to time, you have to know him because Dennis knows the game.

"Tactically, Wisey is fully aware and clued in. I get on alright with him and spoke to him in the summer.

"We were speaking about defending at corners funnily enough. I hope he doesn't remember what we said!

"I've also spoke to Gus a couple of times. I hope they go on and do well there, but obviously not when they play against us.

"But I think they will go on and be successful."
