CLITHEROE chairman Carl Garner has revealed there has already been interest shown in the vacant managerial position at Shawbridge, just days after Chris Stammers' resignation.

The Blues travel to high flying UniBond Premier League side Witton Albion tonight with assistant Ash Berry at the helm after Stammers' shock decision to quit after the drubbing at Kettering Town on Saturday.

But Garner was confident the foundations laid by Stammers during his short spell at the club - he took over as manager at the start of the season - will stand his predecessor in good stead.

He said: "Ash has given us his word that he'll see it through until we make an appointment and all the players are right behind him.

"I've already had contact from two separate parties who have expressed an interest and we haven't even advertised it yet.

"I've not got a bad word to say about Chris. He's a fabulous coach and he brought some fabulous players to us.

"We're a strong, decent club, we pay decent wages and we have a decent fan base, whoever comes in next will be taking over a good club."

After elimination from the FA Trophy on Saturday, Clitheroe are playing in the UniBond League Challenge Cup tonight, but they will be without a number of key players.

Chris Matthews is still out with a shoulder and knee injury and Geoff Underwood is likely to miss out with a shoulder problem.

Teenage striker Will Exton (hand) is a long-term casualty and Simon Garner is rated doubtful with a hamstring injury.
