BLACKBURN Rovers target Yianniakis Okkas says he's excited at the prospect of linking up with manager Mark Hughes.

The Olympiakos man is set for a trial at Ewood Park just before Christmas and could make the switch to the Premiership permanent in January if everything goes well.

Hughes has had his eye on the Cypriot hitman ever since he starred and scored in Olympiakos' 5-0 pre-season friendly win over Rovers in the summer.

Blackburn's scouts also watched him score in Cyprus' recent 1-1 Euro 2008 draw with Germany.

And Rovers could do with the extra firepower. Hughes' side have been a little goal-shy in recent weeks and with Jason Roberts injured, Hughes is keen to add to his attacking options, especially with Rovers on the slide in the Premiership, after taking just one point from a possible 18, but having made it through to the last 32 of the UEFA Cup.

Okkas said: "He (Hughes) is a great football personality. It's a great honour to have the interest and the invitation from Blackburn.

"They are one of the best English clubs with a great history. Many big players have played for this club in the past.

"I will go next month to England for the trial and that's all. If the two clubs agree terms, then I will play for Rovers."

And Okkas admitted he would relish the chance to try his luck in the Premiership.

"To play in Premier League is a big dream and great honour for me," he said.

"This is the best league in the world at the moment and every player wants to have the chance to play there.

"I hope everything is going to be okay and I can become a Rovers player.

"Of course, everything depends on my current club, Olympiakos."

The Greek side, who had the 29-year-old striker in the team that lost 2-0 to Valencia in the Champions' League last week, have confirmed they are willing to let Okkas travel to England for a trial period.

"Olympiakos gave an affirmative response at the demand of Blackburn Rovers," read a club statement.

"Our permission to Okkas is for four days, between 20 and 24 December and not from 18 to 24 as Blackburn initially asked."
