BLACKBURN Rovers marched into the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup after a plucky performance here in Rotterdam last night.

Mark Hughes' troops needed a point from their group E clash with Feyenoord to be sure of a place in the last 32 and they got it after scrapping out a 0-0 draw.

Hughes was delighted with his players afterwards, saying: "We're delighted to be in the next stage.

"Putting that to bed was our first objective.

"Now we want to go on and finish top of the group if we can. It was a good professional display.

"In the first half we dictated the play. It took Feyenoord a long time to affect the game and they didn't until we started to overindulge a bit before the break.

"They had a couple of big shouts for penalties but perhaps my comments at the weekend about these things never evening themselves out will prove to be totally wrong, and I'm happy about that.

"It would have been a travesty if they had got one of those penalties and won the game."

A win against AS Nancy next month will guarantee Rovers top spot in group E, which would see them avoid the clubs from the Champions League in the last 32.
