DEAR Mr Blair, Shane's cursing attitude alone deserved a red card as we big-screened an England World Cup tie in our church lounge.

He couldn't have been 10.

The floor around him was carpeted with discarded pizza, and when he started wrecking the place I moved in to escort Shane to the door and send him off.

"We banned him last week," a visitor from a neighbouring church said as I returned, and it suddenly dawned on me that our society simply didn't care enough about Shane.

If we did, we'd do far more than ban this serial vandal.

We'd actually physically impress upon this poor lad the consequences of his actions.

And we'd probably heavily punish the real culprits his parents as well.

"He who spares the rod hates his son," God inspired in his book (Proverbs 13:24).

We should stop colluding with parents who hate their kids, and we should tell our liberal establishment that they're just as bad.

Between them they are committing the greatest child abuse we have ever experienced in this land.

We used to send kids up chimneys. We treated them as slave labour.

Yet this is nothing to letting a 10-year-old have his own way, his own freedom of expression, and complete immunity from being given a good hiding.

Oh, Mr Blair, take the lead in this area and you really will put your PMship in the history books.
