NOBODY should have to witness scenes of violence at a football match.

The trouble at Turf Moor last weekend was caused by a ‘small minority’ of fans from Burnley and Blackburn.

But internet footage showing police using their batons to try to disperse around 30 fans from the home end has brought complaints.

And it has led to calls from the Football Supporters’ Federation (FSF), which represents fans across the country and is the best-known supporters group in the UK with more than 140,000 members, for a full review of policing operations on the day.

Burnley MP Kitty Isher and former MP Peter Pike have also voiced concerns over the 40-second clip.

Any Blackburn Rovers versus Burnley clash is always going to provide the police with significant problems.

It is good to see the police have taken swift steps themselves by referring the matter to an independent body so that they can take a neutral look at what happened.

Hopefully that will clear the air and defuse the situation.
