IN these freezing conditions, spare a thought for our wildlife in East Lancashire.
As we struggle to live our daily lives it is easy to forget how our animals are braving the elements.
The Lancashire Wildlife Trust has said many animals are having to work harder to survive in the freezing temperatures.
It is even more alarming to hear that some species could be facing extinction.
In particular, bird populations have really suffered and conditions are making things very difficult for animals that rely on grazing.
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds warns that this winter could be the single greatest wildlife killer of the new millennium.
It has begun emergency feeding initiatives for threatened birds to try to help.
But there is something that people in East Lancashire can do.
The charity is asking people to put out extra food including seeds, fat balls and water to give our feathered friends a fighting chance.
It only takes a few minutes but it could make a real difference.
