SAVING a young boy's life always deserves recognition. But when the rescuer is themself suffering from a serious condition, it is even more of an achievement.

This was the case when Juliet Tanti, who is from Sabden, saw a seven-year-old boy drowning while she was on holiday in the Lake District.

Despite suffering from ME which often leaves her unable to get out of bed, Juliet managed to dive into the water and rescue Daniel Whitehead.

ME is a terrible condition, which is difficult to treat and leaves sufferers absolutely exhausted.

To overcome this to save the boy's life is a tremendous achievement.

It is worth remembering that many people in perfect health would not be able to summon the courage to put themselves at risk for someone else.

But Juliet acted instinctively - even though her efforts meant that she struggled to regain her strength for several months.

Juliet has now received a national Local Hero of the Year award.

This is the least she deserves for her bravery.
